St. John's Institute Center for Science

The new Science Center and Administration Building for the ayala campus of St. John's Institute in Bacolod City is inspired to celebrate it's primary purpose: to establish a state-of-the-art science center for the 21st century. Conceptualized as a streamlined and fluid form moving from the ground plane to the sky, the St. John's Institute Center for Science is imagined as the ultra-modern expression of an institution that has innovated in the field of science while being founded by its Catholic values. This is exemplified by the new St. John's Institute Chapel adjacently designed as an anchor to its architectural meaning located beside it to which the science center's form grows from. Aimed as a catalyst to the new science and technology curriculum, the center houses classrooms, science laboratories, e-library, main administrative offices, and as well as an astronomical observatory with stargazing roofdeck at the topmost floor.

Envisioned as an ultra-modern showpiece of the complex emphasized by its fluid architecture that beckons for visions of the future, it uses linear lines complemented with linear ribbon windows, it aesthetic inspires as a space-age like form, with particular interest to a meandering strip that allows visitors access from campus ground floor to the stargazing and observation roof deck at the top in one, elegant exterior stair.

At daytime, the new Science Center is designed with campus life in consideration with its roof deck and balconies overlooking the track and field athletic oval, offering scenic views of the whole surrounding development. At nighttime opens a new range of possibilities with its roofdeck subservient to an astronomical observatory, provides an immersive experience to stargazing events. Its strategic location at the ingress of the whole ayala complex establishes its importance as the jewel of the whole master development plan, imposing its monumental and futuristic edifice to approaching visitors.
